Design: Mahanakhon Tallest building in Thailand on Pixel theme.
The Mahanakhon complex is a new 77-story high-rise located in the central business district of Bangkok. In direct connection to the BTS Skytrain station Chongnonsi, the project is now the tallest building in Thailand, with its more than 313 meters. Mahanakhon was born thanks to the vision of Ole Scheeren, then developed by the Thai team of architects and designers of Buro Ole Scheeren Group.
The design of Mahanakhon started with the goal of completely dismantling the idea of the typical tower, creating a high-rise building that blends gradually with the city, in a kind of gradual “fade” flowing down until it touches the earth. A series of cascading terraces, both indoors and outdoors, at the base of the tower are home to retail and entertainment facilities, evoking the typical protrusions of a mountain landscape.

With the adjacent seven-story freestanding building (called the Cube) is shaped like a “valley” and a network of spaces dedicated to food, entertainment, fun, open to residents but also used as public places. Covering an area of 150,000 square meters, which includes a public square, there are a multi-level retail center with restaurants, cafes and a market open 24 hours on 24; 200 apartments managed by the Ritz-Carlton Group; The Bangkok Edition, a boutique hotel of 150 rooms built in partnership with Marriott International and Ian Schrager; a rooftop sky bar and restaurant.
Mahanakhon complex is Thailand’s Tallest.
The Mahanakhon tower was literally and accurately “sculpted” to achieve a three-dimensional ribbon of architectural pixels that rotates and covers the tower full height, revealing at the same time the indoor life of the building. This particular type of hedge creates a series of very special characteristics, reflecting and projecting the internal and external views of the building, along with pieces of the sky and the city, not a common thing for such high rise building but very well integrated within the tropical metropolis of Bangkok: the pixels are designed, in fact, to best show across the city, offering rare views of the city and the Chao Phraya River.
In addition, sections of the facade that fold inward and upward, creating a play of empty and full spaces, indoor and outdoor environments, which make the Mahanakhon unique in its kind.
